Keyboard Output Delay

Greetings,

I've been attempting to control Keyboard LEDs using various methods with some success (I intend to use the LED signals from a butchered USB keyboard as a serial output - details here: http://www.electronicspoint.com/pic-programmer-made-usb-keyboard-t260458.html )

Problems I've run into:
- The 'DefineDosDevice' method only works with PS2 keyboards
- DirectX methods including microsofts own example absolutely do not work
- the 'hid method' can just f*** right off! I dont even want to f***ing know!
- keybd_event and SendInput work, but there is a variable delay (at least in win7). The strange thing with this is that if the mouse is moving, the delay disappears. Can anyone tell me whats going on here? Is there some kind of output buffer and if so can I flush it? I wont get more than 2bps unless I can get round that.
Expenditure tracker for slot machine sim

Hi,

First of all I apologise if this is in the wrong thread. The chances are it is. Good first impression huh?

Ok, what I'm looing for is a widget type thing that will run simultaneously with my slot machine simulator, on screen, tracking wins and losses in real time.

Doesn't need to be anything fancy at all, in fact basic is better.

If this seems even remotely feasible please let me know. If needs be I may have a small budget for someone who could create a reliable one.

I have no experience whatsoever in programming, so it's up to you to figure if it can be done. If you have any ideas at all I'd be hugely grateful.

For an idea look at this website (not spam I promise, and I'm not here to sell you illicit medication): http://www.lasvegassun.com/gambling-addiction/slotmachine/#axzz2URdHTqh1

The graph on the left is what I need to work in conjunction with a software programme, something like that anyway.

I appreciate any ideas, thoughts etc.

Thanks for your time,

unisntall driver for system device CMOS/RTC windows 8

Hi!

I need to find a way to prevent a system driver like cmos/rtc to load at boot in windows 8.

The problem is:

I am developing a driver to implement an ISR for demo purposes.

I am planning to use IRQ 8 and the RTC to generate periodic interrupts.

However Windows 8 at boot loads a system driver that reserves this IRQ and can not be disabled and if uninstalled it requires a reboot to complete the uninstall process but at the next boot the driver is loaded again.

With the driver loaded I can not access resources reserved by it, like IRQ line 8 ant I/O ports 0x70-71, which I need for my driver.

I tried to avoid this driver to unload at boot commenting lines that refers to it (device id is *PNP0B00) at c:\Windows\Inf\machine.inf

;%*PNP0B00.DeviceDesc% = NO_DRV_X, *PNP0B00 ; Real Time Clock

;*pnp0b00.DeviceDesc="System CMOS/real time clock"

and then regenerate machine.pnf, but the driver still loads.

Then I also commented on machine.inf_loc:

;*pnp0b00.DeviceDesc="System CMOS/real time clock"

but the driver still loads .

I also found another instances of these files on other dirs and commented it, but with no luck.

I thought that machine.inf specifies the drivers to load at boot but it seams that do not.
Can anyone tell me what am I missing?

There is another way to prevent a system driver like cmos/rtc to load at boot?

I would appreciate any suggestions on this issue.
Thanks
Problems on Windows 7 login password

In spite of the release of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, the popularity of Windows 7 is without parallel among all operation systems nowadays. It is widely recognized that Windows 7 has relatively satisfying security performance, especially when compared with Windows Vista. However, the password problems in Windows 7 are still big concerns to many Windows 7 users. For example, some users may forget their login passwords on a regular basis so that they have to face the problem – how to recover Window 7 password. In the following paragraph, several problems related to Windows 7 will be discussed in detail.

1. I lost my Windows 7 password...

In this situation, you can firstly try to recall your current password by the password hints created when you create your Window 7 password. If it fails, make use of your password reset disk made in advance. However, as far as I am concerned, many users don’t have the habit to create a password reset disk. Then a third-party password reset tools can come into handy. When you choose the tool, make sure your data in the locked Windows 7 PC won’t get lost. After all, if you don’t care about the data, you can just reinstall the system with your Windows 7 installation disk.

2. My Windows 7 PC doesn’t recognize password after waking up from sleep mode...

Have you ever meet such the following case? I create the administrator account and password to protect my new Windows 7 notebook. It works pretty well for a couple of days with no problems. One day, it works out of battery, putting the PC into sleep mode for a while. When I try and log back on after waking the PC up, it doesn't recognize the password. I tried many ways: turn off the Caps Lock, remove the battery and reboot. But the current password is still not recognized and I am not permitted to make any changes.

I want to say, it is actually a language input or keyboard layout issue. If there are multiple keyboard layouts installed, it seems Win 7 can use one layout for the main login page and a different one for login screen after sleep/screen-lock. You might be dealing with a foreign keyboard issue. Try to make the password something that is independent of the keyboard layout.

3. I enter the right user name and password, but fail to log in...

Some of Windows 7 users may also encounter with a situation that you enter the right user name and password but only to be informed it was incorrect. I want to say, in this case, it is also possible that your Caps Lock is on. Passwords in Windows are case-sensitive and every time you input your password, you have to capitalize each letter in exactly the same way that you did when you first created it. Besides, if your computer is on a network, a network administrator has the ability to reset your password. It may have been changed by the administrator and you don’t know.

Tip: The above solutions are also workable to Windows Server 2008 PCs. You can also use a Windows Server 2008 password recovery tool to reset lost password. Your Windows Server 2008 password doesn’t work may result from your Caps Lock, your account and so on.

How to disable Windows Server 2008 password expiration?

It's very common these days for Windows Server 2008 users to be told to periodically change their passwords. It is traditionally recommended by some security experts to prevent an attacker who intercepts or guesses the older password. Once the user has switched to a new password, the attacker shouldn't be able to use the old password. However, it actually doesn’t achieve the goal. On the contrary, it seems do as much harm as good when it comes to end-users.

Changing password regularly is rather cumbersome and annoying to almost every Windows Server 2008 users. It poses a real risk to users who rely heavily on their Windows Server 2008 computers. In Windows Server 2008, users are required to change their passwords every 90 days and the password should be a complex password by default. When users lose their passwords and have no idea on Windows Server 2008 password recovery, it may cause serious influence on their works. In my opinion, it is sensible for Windows Server 2008 users to disable the password expiration policy.

You can refer to the following simple steps to turn off the policy.

Step 1: Click on “Start” and choose “Administrative Tools”. Then find “Local Security Policy” under it.

Step 2: In the coming subdirectory, select “Account Policies”.

Step 3: Click on “Password Policy”.

Step 4: Set the value of “Maximum Password Age” as “0”.

Step 5: Click on “Apply” and you’ll have finished all your settings.

Microsoft’s Windows Server systems are widely used by enterprises for their good performance on security. Although password security is indeed important to every worker, it’s not necessary to change the login password too frequently. After all, no matter it is Windows Server 2008 password recovery, Windows Server 2000 password reset or password reset for Windows Server 2003/2012, it is rather troublesome and won’t do good to work efficiency.
Hello, I am new to windows programming. I have made a few simple applications, but I am trying to understand how to build a program using DLL's. I have been trying to build a simple application using a DLL, but I have only been able to statically link the DLL and the program.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2011 is the C++ compiler I am trying to use, it is a bit different from previous versions of Microsoft Visual Studio.

Could someone help me with how to dynamically link an application to a DLL? How do I build the application?
Programming Language for Kiosk Application

Hello :)

I need your suggestions guys regarding the project which my group is planning to develop. We want to develop a kiosk software/application that is capable to access database in a server. (So, there's a networking here..)Because the information that will be displayed in a Kiosk screen will be coming from a database in other computer.

So my problem here is, I don't know which programming language is the best for this kind of application. I'm thinking about using Visual Basic 6.0 since my group is comfortable using this programming language, but I also want to consider the design. I don't like a plain button.

Hope to hear from you guys, thanks much :)
ok i recently got malware and found out that my malware scanner took forever to scan because the malware downloaded a bunch of files into my local service and network service folders. i had no ideas that these system protected folders existed. in light of this new found ignorance, i now want to learn more about windows, from the basics functions of what certain things do to the more programmer specific stuff.

i'm normally a ubuntu user. i first read the "ubuntu pocket guide" to learn more about ubuntu and how everything functions in general. then i read "Understanding UNIX/LINUX Programming: A Guide to Theory and Practice" to get the more programming specific things.

are there are good books that are the windows equivalent of the two book i mentioned above? basically one good book to get a general understand of how windows works and another for programming specific things. any recommendations?
System call Handling

In Windows older versions the user calls were routed to their corresponding system calls through interrupt 2e which was handled by system service dispatcher.
I mean say for the user mode function read_file() there was a corresponding kernel mode function.
The system call index was fed in eax register and was used to index into system call table to find the corresponding kernel mode function.

But in newer windows versions I heard this has changed and interrupts are no more used.
Will anyone let me know what is the new mechanism to handle system calls?
Any good link will help.
