I wrote a pg for finding FLAMES.(I don't know whether you know about FLAMES.If not just ask me).It took me nearly 3 months.I like such challenging pgs. That's what I mean by interesting.

I'm just a kid (I'm 16), but anyway I know NNs, and they sound right for you.
Neural networks requires a lot of math knowledge, some good books and some time (it could take months...).
And then we'll be two NN programmers on this board!

And now, what are FLAMES?

I would recomend getting to a library and see if they have a good book on it.

I'm acctually working on a C++ version (I've done one in C# before), but now I have a lot of work so I have no time...

In my personal opinion, database development is very chalenging. I mean, create a database software, with the structures to manage data efficiently, use indexes, and all that features.
There are very good books that explains how a database software, like Oracle or MySql, works. It is very hard work I think. (of course you would not implement all the features, just the main ones)
